We return to John 10:28 and dig deeper into the Greek and why the word "never" appears. What does it mean? The Greek for "never perish" is actually "ου μη απολωνται εις τον αιωνα" and can be literally translated as "no not perish unto the forever". The "ου μη" double negative is a very strong negative in Greek and the strongest negative in Greek is when it is connected with an aorist subjunctive (the "απολωνται" in this case), and it becomes NEVER because the emphatic negation is followed by "unto the forever". If you are His sheep, it is impossible for you to perish. So how do you become a sheep of Jesus Christ? The gospel of John told us in the first chapter. John 1:12 KJV But as many as received him, to them gave he the right to become the sons of God, to them that believe on his name:

Amen. This doesn't prove eternal security, but under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, Peter prays for eternal security to occur. Why would he do that unless that is the desire of the Holy Spirit?

Notice the first phrase. Whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world. According to scripture, Christians are people who have been born again of God. So this phrase GUARANTEES true Christians will overcome the world. WILL, so they can't lose their salvation or hand it back or walk away. They are guaranteed to make it to heaven. What else could it mean?

He's offering it now.

"Cometh" is either done and finished, or it hasn't happened. "Coming" can be progressive and partial, but once you've finished then it's done. Once you've come to Jesus (ie trusted Him, given yourself to Him), you're saved for eternity. You can never hunger and never thirst again. You cannot lose your salvation or walk away. He will keep you forever.

And notice it also says "kept in the power of God". And "to an inheritance incorruptible and that fadeth not away". We don't keep ourselves saved. God does. If you've been saved, there is not way that can change.

The cross is an amazing expression of the infinite love of God, so how can He not continue to love those He has saved. He's already done so much, how can He not complete the job??

The word deliver here is the Hebrew word that can mean steal by force or snatch away or seize. It indicates the right or power to do such, but can mean illegitimately using power to steal. The obvious implication is God has the right to keep us and no-one has to power to steal or seize us out of His hand. This is the same idea in John 10.27-29 where none can snatch/pluck/steal/seize our of the Son's hand or the Father's hand. This means that even if you walk away, the devil will never own you. You are always HIS! The only condition is you have to belong to Him. You have to be His sheep. You have to have heard and believed. You have to have come to Him.
