Cancel Dad! - Ravi Chandran

As it is also Father’s Day, Ravi shares a thought provoking message entitled, “Cancel Dad!” Long before the contemporary “cancel culture” existed, we read in the book of Genesis, an incident at the Garden of Eden, on how the devil seduced mankind to “cancel” God the Father. With the introduction of sin, mankind abandoned the Lordship of God the Father in return for independence and self preservation. The “cancellation” of God as Father has brought tremendous trials and tribulations for mankind. Still, God promised a Messiah right there in the Garden of Eden who will reconcile us back to Him.

Jesus reintroduced God by teaching us to pray to Him as “Our Father who art in heaven”. That’s right, He was, is, and always will be our Father. Our Father has not forsaken us, we have forsaken Him, and bore the consequences of it. Jesus paid the price for it on the cross, to restore us back to a loving relationship with our Heavenly Father instead of being instruments of wrath.

The true pattern of fatherhood comes from the bible. It is one of both love and discipline. While our Heavenly Father loves us, He also corrects us to stay on paths of righteousness for His Name’s sake. While contemporary fatherhood may have its flaws, it is often based on human efforts. As believers, the Holy Spirit will help us overcome our flaws, while still human, to strife for divine values. Only with God’s help can the lost spirit of divine fatherhood be rekindled and recaptured.
