“Liver Disease From Blood Clot” (Budd-Chiari Syndrome) Risk Factors, Symptoms, Diagnosis, Treatment

“Liver Disease From Blood Clot” | Budd-Chiari Syndrome | Causes, Pathophysiology, Symptoms, Diagnosis, Treatment

Budd-Chiari Syndrome is a liver condition due to a blockage (or occlusion) of hepatic venous outflow due to a clot (thrombus) or other causes. These blood clots can be due to a variety of hypercoagulable conditions, including antiphospholipid antibody syndrome and Factor V leiden. A clot (or other obstruction) can occlude one or more of the hepatic veins, leading to hepatic venous congestion and eventual hepatic congestion and hepatic injury. In this lesson, we discuss the signs and symptoms of Budd-Chiari Syndrome, including how it’s diagnosed and how it’s treated.
