Vaginal Candidiasis (also known as a Yeast Infection or Vulvovaginal candidiasis) is an infection of the vagina (and vulva) involving Candida species of fungus. A variety of factors can increase the risk of having a yeast infection, including having diabetes, being pregnant and being obese. In this lesson, we discuss the causes of this condition, including some of the pathophysiology, the risk factors that you should avoid, the signs and symptoms, how it’s diagnosed and how it’s treated.
