N. Korean hit banned in S. Korea for being ‘psychological warfare’

A North Korean pop song has been banned in South Korea after the government deemed it ‘psychological warfare.’ The N-K-pop hit ‘Friendly Father’ features lines such as ‘Let’s love Kim Jong-un, a friendly father,’ and ‘the people believe and will follow united a friendly father,’ which has landed the song in hot water with officials south of the border. ‘The video is typical content linked to psychological warfare against South Korea, as it was posted on a channel operated to connect with the outside world and mainly focused on unilaterally idolizing and glorifying Kim,’ the Korea Communications Standards Commission said in a statement.

The upbeat tone of ‘Friendly Father,’ use of real instruments, lyrics that make sense and a distinct lack of awfulness puts it in direct opposition to South Korea’s own psychological warfare music, known in the West as ‘K-pop.’
