Boos could also be heard as Gallagher stood on the podium alongside five girls. Gallagher’s participation in female events has been heavily criticized, with lawmakers calling for a change to the rules after the athlete won a previous 400m race. Currently, Oregon allows athletes to participate in the category which ‘aligns with their gender identity’ without the need to provide evidence of a medical transition.
