After a significant amount of public counseling to the contrary, historically faithful evangelical Pastor Alistair Begg calls his critics pharisees. This is a harsh rebuke and deserves exegeting. Some of his critics called him to repent and others just to recant. Some are saying its not sin but its just capitulation. Pastor Jeff and Pastor Tim help us average Joes understand how important it was when Alistair Begg cited John Stott as an influence in his theology. This episode will exegete the comments Pastor Begg going beyond just giving bad advice to a grandmother trying to love an unbelieving grandchild. We discuss Pastor Begg's comments about categories of sin, fundamentalism, and his understanding of covenant.
Were these errors influenced by following a man like John Stott who was an ecumenicalist (promoting unity among worldwide religions) and an annihilationist (rejects the doctrine of Hell)? Pastor Jeff will explain why he found the revelation of John Stott so revealing from a man like Pastor Begg who he has and continues to have great respect for.
We hope our criticisms are received with the love intended. Remember this podcast was recently renamed, "Tearing Down High Places, Rebuking Christian Compromise with Love". We are and will continue to pray for Pastor Begg to recant, repent, and grow in his understanding as appropriate so he can continue to serve the universal Church.
