George Washington was the first President of the United States and the commander-in-chief of the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. He was one of the Founding Fathers of the United States and presided over the convention that drafted the Constitution. During the dark days of the American revolution, George Washington had a spiritual experience of extraordinary potency. Peter Sellers was an English film actor and comedian. He was both a superb character actor, but also a masterful comic actor, best known for his portrayal of Chief Inspector Clouseau in The Pink Panther series of films and his membership of the Goons, along with Spike Milligan and Harry Secombe. He had a Near Death experience in 1964 . His heart stopped for one and a half minutes and stopped seven more times before the doctor was able to bring him back. The repeated act of dying became for Sellers a pivotal point in his life. But it did not begin his spiritual interests, it simply intensified them. Although many have attributed Peter’s intense interest in the occult to his NDE, he needed no NDE to be convinced of the existence of ‘spirits’. Sellers regularly consulted mediums and astrologers. Film producers even submitted their ideas and scripts to Peter’s ‘spiritual advisors’. Peter also immersed himself in Eastern philosophy. At the time he said ‘Yoga has given me a tranquillity I wouldn’t have thought possible’. And via yoga and spiritual practises he managed to partly, though not entirely, water down the consequences of his childhood. But the film 'I’m all Right Jack' [1959] directed by John Boulting was a milestone for him as a character actor playing a serious role, as opposed to a comic role. For his role as Fred Kite he won a British Academy Film Award for Best British Actor. Henri Michaux was a French speaking Belgian-born poet, artist, and writer. The Museum of Modern Art in Paris, Tate Modern and the Guggenheim Museum in New York all have examples of his paintings and drawings. He wrote travelogues, and Oriental culture became one of his biggest influences. The philosophy of Buddhism, and Oriental calligraphy, later became principal subjects of many of his poems and inspired many of his drawings. But he is perhaps best known for his drug experiments resulting in the book Miserable Miracle Mescaline. There is a tendency for drug users to assume that Michaux was a drug addict, but nothing could be further from the truth. He said: "Should we talk about pleasure? It was unpleasant ...". So why on earth did he do it? Henri treated the realms visited via drugs as a form of travel as his health declined so badly actual travel became impossible. He decided to travel via his mind instead of via his body. Thomas Charles Lethbridge better known as T.C. Lethbridge, was an English archaeologist, investigator of spiritual phenomenon and explorer. He wrote twenty-four books, becoming particularly well known for his explanations and research into dowsing. His archaeological work used a pendulum and Lethbridge discovered many artefacts and sites by dowsing. After graduating at Cambridge university, he became Keeper of Anglo-Saxon Antiquities at the university museum from 1923 to 1957. His adventuring took him to Jan Mayen island in the Arctic Circle, East Greenland and North West Greenland. But Lethbridge resigned from the university museum in 1957, preferring to research the area in which he had become the most interested - the spiritual. Lethbridge came up with a theory which is now known as the Stone Tape theory that memories can be captured and stored like tape recordings in bricks and stones. And it was during his psychometric experiments that he discovered that ancient objects preserve the stink of the dwellings they were in. Dowsing or divining, is the practice by which dowsers are able to detect hidden or buried water, metals, gemstones, or other [crystalline] objects without the use of scientific apparatus. At 25, Moitessier left Vietnam to lead the life of a ‘sea-gypsy’, even surviving two catastrophic shipwrecks. In 1968, Moitessier participated in the Sunday Times Golden Globe Race, the first single handed round the world yacht race. With the fastest circumnavigation time, Moitessier was the likely winner, but he elected to continue on to Tahiti and not return to the start line in England. Few understood at the time that it was because his values were grounded in a deep almost mystic spirituality. Moitessier said "I am a citizen of the most beautiful nation on earth, ... in this nation of wind, light, and peace, there is no other ruler besides the sea".
