Peter Sellers was an English film actor and comedian. He was both a superb character actor, but also a masterful comic actor, best known for his portrayal of Chief Inspector Clouseau in The Pink Panther series of films and his membership of the Goons, along with Spike Milligan and Harry Secombe. He had a Near Death experience in 1964 . His heart stopped for one and a half minutes and stopped seven more times before the doctor was able to bring him back. The repeated act of dying became for Sellers a pivotal point in his life. But it did not begin his spiritual interests, it simply intensified them. Although many have attributed Peter’s intense interest in the occult to his NDE, he needed no NDE to be convinced of the existence of ‘spirits’. Sellers regularly consulted mediums and astrologers. Film producers even submitted their ideas and scripts to Peter’s ‘spiritual advisors’. Peter also immersed himself in Eastern philosophy. At the time he said ‘Yoga has given me a tranquillity I wouldn’t have thought possible’. And via yoga and spiritual practises he managed to partly, though not entirely, water down the consequences of his childhood. But the film 'I’m all Right Jack' [1959] directed by John Boulting was a milestone for him as a character actor playing a serious role, as opposed to a comic role. For his role as Fred Kite he won a British Academy Film Award for Best British Actor. Black Sabbath were an English heavy metal rock band, formed in Birmingham in 1968, consisting of "Tony" Iommi, ‘Geezer’ Butler, "Ozzy" Osbourne and Bill Ward. But it is also possible to provoke a spiritual experience via intense and overwhelming happiness and euphoria. Pete Townshend is an English rock musician, composer, multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, songwriter, author and the guitarist for the rock group The Who. Townshend is and was the primary songwriter for The Who, having written well over 100 songs for the band's 12 studio albums. Although known primarily as a guitarist, he also plays keyboards, banjo, accordion, harmonica, ukulele, mandolin, violin, synthesiser, bass guitar and drums. He is self-taught on all of these instruments. Townshend was one of the first major rock stars to turn against the use of drugs and wrote about it in 1970. He became a very devoted follower of Meher Baba, and it was Meher Baba’s influence that helped him turn away from drugs. His 2012 autobiography is called Who I Am. Jacques Lusseyran became totally blind in a school accident at the age of 7, but spiritually he taught himself "blindsight", the ability to "see" without his eyes. At the start of the war, in 1941, at the age of 17, Lusseyran formed a Resistance group. But in 1943, Lusseyran was arrested by the Gestapo, and deported to Buchenwald Concentration Camp. He wrote about his life, including his experience during the war, in his autobiography And There Was Light. Michael Crichton was an American author and filmmaker. Although he received an M.D. from Harvard Medical School , he did not practice medicine, choosing to focus on his writing instead. Huxley was interested in ‘parapsychology’ and ‘philosophical mysticism’ and became involved in the experiments being undertaken at the time, on these subjects.William Blake once wrote: "If the doors of perception were cleansed every thing would appear to man as it is, infinite". George William Russell, better known as AE (1867-1935) was an Irish mystic, poet, painter, journalist, editor, and practical rural economist. Although he was a natural mystic, he had one brush with the kundalini experience. Without any meditation or alternative spiritual practises, Russell had already ‘seen’ the beings of Light, heard celestial music and received great swathes of inspiration for his poetry and paintings. Henri Michaux was a French speaking Belgian-born poet, artist, and writer. The Museum of Modern Art in Paris, Tate Modern and the Guggenheim Museum in New York all have examples of his paintings and drawings. He wrote travelogues, and Oriental culture became one of his biggest influences. The philosophy of Buddhism, and Oriental calligraphy, later became principal subjects of many of his poems and inspired many of his drawings. But he is perhaps best known for his drug experiments resulting in the book Miserable Miracle Mescaline. There is a tendency for drug users to assume that Michaux was a drug addict, but nothing could be further from the truth. He said: "Should we talk about pleasure? It was unpleasant ...". So why on earth did he do it? Henri treated the realms visited via drugs as a form of travel as his health declined so badly actual travel became impossible. He decided to travel via his mind instead of via his body.
