"Fool (If You Think It's Over)," written by Chris Rea, was Rea's first release in the US and his only top 20 hit climbing to the no. 12 position on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1978 (Whitburn, 2013) and remained three weeks on the Adult Contemporary chart's top position. Elton John's producer, Gus Dudgeon, produced this track, but Rea was not thrilled with the final production wanting it to be a more soul rather than a pop feel; "I did as I was told by a huge producer, and he'd been told by the record company to turn me into the next Elton John, which couldn't be further away from what I was . . . I've still got a piece of paper and on the original lyrics it says: ''Fool (If You Think It's Over).' Song for Al Green" (songfacts, 2024). Because of the song, Rea was nominated for the Best New Artist Grammy (awardsandwinners, 1978).
