Reflections:

The Medium is the Message (And the Message doesn’t change). Excerpts from “The Social Church”, a theology of digital communication by Justin Wise.

In his book Understanding Media: The Extensions of Man, Marshall McLuhan coined the phrase, “The Medium is the Message.” A statement that on the surface seems ridiculous and inane. What does it even mean? What medium? Which message? What’s the relationship? If the medium is the message, then how a message is conveyed must be considered, at least in some way, to be just as important as what the message is. It’s not just what you say, but it’s how you say it. McLuhan’s theory (if you could call it that) posits the medium one uses to communicate a message changes the inherent meaning of the message.
