The Amethyst Deceiver (Laccaria amethystina) is a small, strikingly purple mushroom found in both deciduous and coniferous forests. Despite its vibrant color, it’s known as the “deceiver” because its color can fade, making it hard to identify, especially since it resembles the poisonous Lilac fibrecap. It’s generally safe to eat but can absorb arsenic from the soil, so foraging should be done with caution. You can find it from August to November, thriving in the leaf litter of woodlands.
