They have sprung up in Tokyo, Berlin - and now in New York.
Micro-cinemas are small theatres where independent filmmakers have a chance to show their work to an audience, without having to sell their film first.
They provide the opposite experience of watching a big-action billion-dollar blockbuster but have their own way of tempting audiences to come to the cinema.
