Roger McGill & Harold Beyne- 51st Vietnam War Veterans Day, New Paradigms w/Sargis Sangari EP #189
On Friday, 29 MAR 24, on New Paradigms with Sargis Sangari, Episode #189, Roger A. McGill & Harold F. Beyne III join me on the 51st Vietnam Veterans Day to discuss the untold story of Chicago's Welcome Home Veterans Parade held on June 13, 1986, and elaborate on their book The Day We Finally Came Back from Vietnam.
On March 29, 1973, combat and combat support units withdrew from South Vietnam. Generations later, Veterans of this period are gaining the respect that was not so freely given upon their return. Involving five U.S. presidents, crossing nearly two decades and 500,000 U.S. military personnel, it left an indelible mark on the American psyche.
Returning veterans did not always receive respectful welcomes upon their arrival on American soil. Over 58,000 were killed, never to return. The observance recognizes the military service of these men and women who answered the call to serve their country when it needed them. They didn't make the decision to go to war.
Throughout National Vietnam War Veterans Day, we recognize the service and duty of all servicemen and women of this era.
Roger A. McGill was Drafted into the U.S. Army in 1964 and was the RTO/Driver for Major Russell, who was the XO of the 3/4 Cavalry Squadron, both in
Hawaii and Cu Chi, Vietnam.
Harry Beyne served in the U.S. Army from March 13, 1968, until December 21, 1970. He served in Vietnam with the 101st Airborne Division at Bien Hoa and Phu Bai.
