“Better to reign in Hell, than to serve in Heaven.” This famous line, spoken by the character of Satan in John Milton’s epic poem, “Paradise Lost,” has become the archetypal concept that most people now draw their own ideas of Satan from. In nearly all of the modern depictions of the devil, he is portrayed as a king on the throne of hell, the chief tormentor of lost souls condemned to his suffer in his domain, under his wicked rule for all of eternity. This understanding of the devil, however, pulls a lot more from the Hades of Greek mythology as the god of the Underworld ruling over the dead than anything resembling the Satan of the Bible. No, Satan is not sitting on a throne, presiding over Hell right now. Satan is currently active in the natural and supernatural plains, not ruling but rebelling. You may have heard that God has a plan for your life. Well, the devil does, too. Today, we are going to dispel some of the extra-biblical satanic mythology and find out what kind of relationship he wants to have with you.
