Joe Biden and Donald Trump have both visited the US-Mexico border, as election campaigning ramps up ahead of November’s polls.

The two men were almost 500km apart, with Biden in Brownsville, Texas and Trump visiting Eagle Pass. However, the reception of the two politicians appeared markedly different. Trump was greeted with smiles and warm handshakes by border officers, while Biden was greeted politely but without much enthusiasm by troops assigned to welcome him. In footage from the trip, Biden can be seen with his trusty cheat-sheet in his hand, using his free hand to limply poke an officer in the chest. Biden later called on Trump to support his unpopular border security bill, which includes funding for Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan. Trump, meanwhile, used the visit to emphasize his hardline stance on immigration, referencing the recent murder of a Georgia nursing student by an illegal immigrant, and bringing back his previous pledge to ‘build the wall.’
