Thousands of brave men in Okayama, Japan stripped down to take part in the traditional Hadaka Matsuri festivities on Saturday. Translated as ‘Naked Festival’, the event is now in its 515th year, making it one of the oldest festivals in Japan. Men decked out in nothing but traditional loincloths battle each other through icy water and cold streets for sacred offerings that promote good luck. The winners are said to be rewarded with a year of health, wealth, and prosperity. And presumably a coat.
