"Mrs. Robinson," written by Paul Simon, was Simon & Garfunkel's second no. 1 release and 9th top 40 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, landing at the top position in 1968 (Whitburn, 2013). The song was featured in the film "The Graduate" staring Dustin Hoffman and Anne Bancroft. The song received two Grammys in 1968 for Record Of The Year and Best Contemporary Pop Performance — Duo Or Group (T. McPhate, grammy, May 15, 2017). Originally, the song was titled "Mrs. Roosevelt," but Simon changed it to "Mrs. Robinson" when he was asked to write a song for the movie (songfacts, 2024). One of the most unusual lyrics in the song was the Joe DiMaggio reference. Simon said "The Joe DiMaggio line was written right away in the beginning. And I don't know why or where it came from. It seems so strange, like it didn't belong in that song and then, I don't know, it was so interesting to us that we just kept it. So it's one of the most well-known lines that I've ever written" (SongTalk magazine, 1990).
