Old Man: A Demonstration of Low Budget Film Production

You want to be a filmmaker. You've got stories to share. You've got information to pass along. You want to do it with creative expression, and you want to do it better than you ever have before. But you have little money and no backers. Can it be done? And if so, how?

Old Man is a demonstration of film production on a shoestring budget. I'll talk more about that in future videos, but just to outline the production's core gear: a first generation iPad Air, some 10 years old, salvaged from a local business, and an $8 microphone "bundle" from a flea market. That's the core of the production hardware. That's it. (Spoiler alert: There's more to the story on the post-production side, but we'll get there.) The creative process beings with a filmmaker bending whatever resources are at hand to the task at hand. Limitations aren't obstacles to creativity, they are opportunities to be creative and inventive. Limitations give you a way to truly blaze your own trail as a filmmaker.

Note: Special thanks to our Old Man for getting in front of the camera with actual bruises from a real life fall!
