1 Peter 5
Peter tells the elders to oversee the flock willingly, eagerly and as an example to the flock.
Give it to God: Discouragement often occurs when people try to shoulder their own worries, cares, and fears. We are saying we don't trust God. We must cast all our cares on God and it requires a great amount of trust and humility.
Steadfast: As soon as a person becomes a Christian , Satan tries to make them ineffective through sin or through struggles with discouragement or suffering. Believers must sober and vigilant, resisting Satan by remaining "steadfast in the faith." We need not fear Satan because he is defeated. When we resist Satan, he will flee (James 4:7) We also resist Satan by wearing the armor that God provides (Eph. 6:10-20) and remembering we are not alone.
