-
Pressing (Chest & Tri’s)
-
First up for pressing, I did some incline dumbbells. These are a great for building/rebuilding a base of strength and joint integrity. The inherent instability is fantastic for building resilience in the connective tissues. That said, if shoulder instability is causing you some discomfort, try gripping the dumbbells harder. Not only will help kind of “take some slack” out of the kinetic chain, but also increase neural drive and may get you another quality rep or 2.
-
After the dumbbells I moved on to “Louie’s” AKA barbell pushups. I did these today in the bottom of a Hammer Strength rack, down at the base of the structure putting me at a slight decline angle. I do these wide to get the previously injured connective tissues a bit more stress in a manageable, compound movement format as opposed to hammering them directly with a flye.
-
And that’s it. I did a 30k on the bike so an easy 10 sets of pressing is a good amount of effective volume to keep the ball rolling. Remember, the fatigue accumulation for cranking the intensity and volume levers isn’t linear. You very quickly get diminishing returns after a certain point so the name of the game isn’t always “do more work,” it’s stress management.
