These Are Some Of The Most Unusually Lovely Restaurants In The World

When the subject of gastronomic pleasures comes up, opinions are split. There are those who would much rather enjoy their chef create something out of thin air that not only looks delicious, but is also surprisingly filling, and then there are those restaurant goers that put food and drink in the back, while they soak up the thrill of the surroundings.

Those people would probably love the visual aspect of Tokyo’s Robot Restaurant. Located in the Shinjuku nightlife district, Robot Restaurant is all about the show. Valued guests might find the combination of dancers dressed in nothing but a bikini, riding robotic dinosaurs, while tribal drummers (also quite scantily clothed) beat up drums, under neon lights, all a bit too nonsensical. But people love it so much, that the shows are always sold out, even with tickets topping 100 USD. If only the food tasted better than a bland afterthought.

On the other side of the extremes, we got the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island Resort’s Ithaa Undersea Restaurant. With the acrylic tube situated under 16 feet of ocean water, it became the first restaurant of its kind in 2005. The Robot Restaurant might have been about sensory overload, but the Ithaa, meaning ‘mother of pearl’, is all about serenity in a quiet space. The establishment, which can only house 14 diners at one time, offers patrons a 270-degree panoramic view, while surrounded by dozens of species of fish in their natural habitat.

If none of these tickles your fancy, you can always go to Giraffe Manor in Nairobi and share your meal with the tall residents!
