Workmen narrowly avoid spectacular avalanche in Kashmir

A massive avalanche has hit Sonamarg in India’s Jammu and Kashmir region, causing magnificent and terrible scenes of snowfall. A spectacular video of the avalanche shows an entire mountain face being engulfed in snow as terrified onlookers run for safety. The video was captured by construction workers building the Zojila tunnel, with the avalanche landing directly on their workshop. Despite the horrific scenes, nobody was injured and no damage was reported.

The severity of the avalanche was exacerbated by higher-than-average snowfall in recent weeks, and had prompted officials to issue warnings. People have been advised to steer clear of the region and other avalanche-prone zones for at least 24 hours.
