Jesus: The Lord Jesus Christ

Our Savior’s composite name is “Jesus Christ,” the name Christians called Him at the end of the first century when John wrote the book of Revelation. However, in the Gospels He is mostly called by His Greek name “Jesus,” which reflects His earthly life. “Jesus” is “Joshua” in Hebrew, from the root meaning “Jehovah saves.” In the book of Acts, He is mostly called by His title “Lord,” which emphasized that He was the second Person of the Trinity and which reflected His deity. In the Epistles, He is mostly called by His office title “Christ.” Put them all together, and He is the Lord Jesus Christ.
