Good Lovin' (Young Rascals, The, 1966). Live cover performance by Bill Sharkey, Puka's Bar & Grill Courtyard, Kahala Mall, Kahala, HI. 2024-01-10. "Keeping the Oldies & Classics Alive"

"Good Lovin' ," written by Rudy Clark and Artie Resnick, was the Young Rascals' first top 40 hit rising to the no. 1 position on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1966, the first of three no. 1 hits for the group (Whitburn, 2013). The year prior, The Olympics' had a minor hit with a slower version of the song, which stalled at no. 81 on the Billboard chart (Whitburn, 2013). Organist and vocalist Felix Cavaliere did not like the final recording stating, "We weren't too pleased with our performance. It was a shock to us when it went to the top of the charts" (songfacts, 2024). "The 'One! Two! Three!' count-in was recored with a different band member vocalizing each number. "Cavaliere told Songfacts that the order was: Eddie Brigati, Gene Cornish, then Felix" (songfacts, 2024).

Lyrics:

1-2-3-
(Good lovin' . . .)
(Good lovin' . . .)
(Good lovin' . . .)
I was feelin' . . . so bad,
I asked my family doctor just what I had,
I said, "Doctor, . . .
(Doctor . . .)
Mr. M.D., . . .
(Doctor . . .)
Now can you tell me, tell me, tell me,
What's ailin' me?"
(Doctor . . .)
He said, "Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
(Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
Yes, indeed, all you really need . . .

(Is good lovin')
Gimme that good, good lovin . . .
(Good lovin')
All I need is lovin' . . .
(Good lovin')
Good lovin', baby.

Baby please, squeeze me tight . . . (Squeeze me tight)
Now don't you want your baby to feel alright? (Feel alright)
I said Baby . . . (Baby) . . . now it's for sure . . . (it's for sure)
I got the fever, Baby, Baby, but you've got the cure
(You've got the cure)
I said, "Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
(Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
Yes, indeed, all I really need . . .
(Is good lovin')
Gimme that good, good lovin . . .
(Good lovin')
All I need is lovin' . . .
(Good lovin')
Good lovin', baby.
