3rd In our series the Prophet Micah

I. The Idolatry of Human Civil Government - Micah 1:5
* A. Looking to civil government for salvation which comes from God alone
* B. Asking or expecting civil government to do things God never gave it any authority to do
* 1. Only two realms of authority for human civil government
* a. Establish justice by proper application of God’s Law, punishing crime as defined by God’s Word
* b. Protect and the defend the borders of the nation - Acts 17:26
* 2. Anything outside these two task moves civil government in the direction of becoming an idol before the people

II. The Coming Judgment against Samaria - Micah 1:6
* A. The capital of the idolatrous nation would be leveled to the ground
* B. It would be a place for establishing a vineyard
* 1. Conditions for an ideal vineyard
* a. God had better use for the ground that the capital city Samaria was using for evil
* b. As a vineyard it would be a blessing not a curse
* 2. Jesus is the vine in the Father’s vineyard - John 15:1-8
* a. This is the complete repudiation of idolatry
* b. Those bear much fruit who abide in Christ
* C. The Stones of Samaria would be cast down
* 1. All the defenses they relied upon would be destroyed
* a. Their military defense utterly defeated
* b. Courts of justice and monetary system destroyed
* 2. The complete destruction of their idol, civil government
