"Cupid," written by Sam Cooke, was Cooke's 6th top 20 hit rising to the no. 17 position on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1961; it also is listed as no. 458 on the Rolling Stone's "500 Greatest Songs of All Time" (Whitburn, 2013). At the urging of Cooke's producers, Sam wrote the song about a girl who was shown on the Perry Como show who looked at Como with yearning eyes (songfacts, 2024).
