"Jingle Bell Rock," written by Joseph Beal and James Boothe (although Bobby Helms and Hank Garland claimed that they wrote the song), was Helm's third top 40 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 rising to no. 6 on the chart in 1957 (songfacts, 2023); Whitburn, 2013). In a 1986 interview, Helms said "I wrote the music, but I didn't get the credit . . . 'Jingle Bell Rock' didn't have no bridge in it. So, I changed that. They said you just sing it however you want to. Change it, 'cause I got the publishing. You just change it however you want to. It don't matter about that" (G. James, classicbands, 1986).
