The Glass House - Middle of “Nowhere Desert”

There are a lot of discrepancies on line about the Glass House. Why someone would want to build a glass house in the middle of “nowhere desert” beats us. Intriguing all the same, some mysteries may forever elude us.
One reference indicates that it was built in the 1970s and abandoned in the 80s. Another, that it was constructed in 1993/94 by Walt Benson (with the help of one other man). Walt is said to have been an eccentric Californian wine grower/producer, and built the Glass House for his wife.
It has been assembled into the side of the plateau with the doors facing North and South for the beautiful views of the lakes and to get a cross breeze. Plexiglas and metal are the main building materials, and to us, the interior has been designed with 70s style decor.
Sweltering sun in the summer, and frigid temperatures in the winter!
