The More I See You (Chris Montez, 1966). Live cover performance by Bill Sharkey, Home Studio, Hawaii Kai, HI. 2023-12-15. "Keeping the Oldies & Classics Alive"

"The More I See You," written by Harry Warren and Mack Gordon, was Chris Montez' second top 20 hit peaking at no. 16 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1966 (Whitburn, 2013). Herb Alpert signed Montez to record on A&M records and produces his future recordings. He suggested that Chris change his focus from rock 'n roll (e.g., "Let's Dance") to more middle-of-the-road pop songs and chose "The More I See You," which was first recorded first by Buddy DiVito with the Harry James Orchestra and then Dick Haymes with the Victor Young Orchestra; both were hits in 1945 (songfacts, 2023; Whitburn, 1986). Montez' recording was more upbeat than the other two recordings and added a slight latin feel.

Lyrics:

The more I see you, the more I want you
Somehow this feeling just grows and grows
With every sigh I become more mad about you
More lost without you and so it goes

Can you imagine how much I love you?
The more I see you as years go by
I know the only one for me can only be you
My arms won't free you, and my heart won't try

Can you imagine how much I love you?
The more I see you as years go by
I know the only one for me can only be you
My arms won't free you, and my heart won't try
