I called Social Security to ask if I could use my Power of Attorney to talk as the principal's representative. SSA Tawanda claimed they don’t accept POAs. Tawanda resisted, talking about “representative payees.” So I read her Pennsylvania's law showing agents CAN use POAs with Social Security Administration.

Tawanda put me on hold...then came back and confirmed yes, SS-5 applications can be filed with a valid PA statutory POA! By standing my ground and citing the specific state law, I got this Social Security rep to reverse their position and AGREE to simply follow the law in accepting Power of Attorney.
