The Fate of the MONSTER Ammo Can Speaker

A few years ago, I discovered DIY ammo can speakers. Because I subscribe to the philosophy of Adam and Jamie, which is 'Anything that can be done can be over done', I built a MONSTER. It was feature-packed, LOUD, and heavy-which was its undoing.

The speaker was built using a 20mm ammo can, which by itself weighed around 20lbs before adding any components. It featured a pair of Kenwood 6 1/2" car stereo speakers, that were powered by a 2-channel, 50w per channel amplifier. The system had 4 different selectable inputs, including a Raspberry Pi 3b+ with the official RPi 7" touchscreen running Volumio. It also had 2 3.5mm (1/8") stereo inputs, as well as a single RCA input.

Power was supplied by switching between A/C wall power, and internal battery packs. The RPi and display were powered by their own 20000mAh power pack, the amplifier was powered by an 18650-based lithium ion power pack, and there were LED lights built into the unit that were also powered by a third 18650 power pack.
