In Tsukishima, a town famous for monja, lives an adorable tortoise named Bon. This giant tortoise is an international star online. Mrs. Mitani bought a small tortoise at a supermarket and brought him home 20 years ago. It was in the middle of August, during the traditional "Bon" holiday, which became his namesake. Now, 20 years later, Bon is a meter long and weighs about 70kg. His favorite foods are bananas, apples, cabbage, and carrots.

In the interview, Bon’s owner, Hisao Mitani, said, "Bon is like my son." They sure looked like father and son, walking together side by side. At first they only had a tiny cage, but Bon grew out of it quickly. They had to find an alternative solution and asked a carpenter to make an adjusted home for Bon.

He is an African spurred tortoise and comes from a warm habitat, so he doesn’t like the cold weather. That is why he uses handmade cloth when they go out. His clothes were made by his friend and it goes with a matching bag. Whenever he has the time, Hisao takes his unusual pet outside for a stroll, for which he believes helps to relieve his stress from being cooped up. They usually walk 5-600 meters and it takes them about an hour to hour and a half to complete this route.
