RAF Red Arrows: The Folland GNAT

First flown in 1955, the Folland Gnat was designed as a low-cost LIGHT FIGHTER JET for the British Royal Air Force. Subsequently adapted as a jet trainer by the RAF, the GNAT FIGHTER JET was also exported to the Finnish Air Force (FAF) and Indian Air Force (IAF) in AIR COMBAT and support roles. In 1964, the GNAT was adopted into the newly formed RAF Yellowjacks Aerobatic Team which, the following year, became the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team: The Red Arrows. After 1,292 displays the Folland Gnat was retired from Red Arrows and RAF service to be replaced by the HAWK jet trainer. Today’s AVIATION ART release depicts the RED ARROWS Gnat in its prime – a four ship going over the top high above the English countryside. Enjoy!
