BAC 167 Strikemaster: The Kiwi STRIKEMASTER
Developed from the British JET PROVOST trainer which took to the skies in the late 1960s, the STRIKEMASTER added weapons to the Jet Provost and provided a light attack and CLOSE AIR SUPPORT platform for global export. The Strikemaster offered crews the ability to utilise unprepared airstrips and provided higher survivability during low-altitude ejections, and so was popular with many nations as a relatively affordable yet potent attack aircraft. Today’s AVIATION ART release depicts a Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF) Strikemaster taking shape straight from the blueprint. Enjoy!

Supermarine Spitfire: The BEST FIGHTER PLANE Ever?
Designed by R.J. Mitchell as a high-performance interceptor, the Spitfire first took to the skies in 1936 and would go on to become one of the most iconic COMBAT AIRCTAFT in history. With high rates of climb combined with high-manoeuvrability, RAF Spitfires soon became a force to be reckoned with in the skies above Europe. However, and despite serving with numerous allied air forces in combat theatres across the globe, the Supermarine Spitfire is perhaps best known for its pivotal role in the Battle of Britain. In the summer of 1940, alongside the famous Hawker Hurricane, these classic British fighters formed the backbone of RAF Fighter Command during the tumultuous months of the battle, leading to victory over the Luftwaffe by summer’s end. To celebrate this legendary WW2 WARBIRD, today’s aviation art release depicts a Royal Air Force Spitfire in another of its famous battles – banking hard above the sea during the Battle of Malta. Enjoy!

SEPECAT Jaguar: The Anglo-French ATTACK AIRCRAFT!
The Jaguar was born of a British / French collaboration which sought to develop a JET TRAINER with attack and close air support capabilities. This remit subsequently expanded, most notably to include nuclear strike during the later phases of the Cold War. Thereafter exported to Oman, Ecuador, Nigeria and India (and remaining in service to this day with the latter), the Sepecat Jaguar has been battle-tested in conflicts across the globe, perhaps most notably during the 1990 Gulf War where French and RAF JAGUAR SQUADRONS saw extensive combat as part of the aerial component of Operation Desert Storm / Operation Granby. For today’s AVIATION ART release, we present a Royal Air Force Jaguar in its 20th Century heyday, high over rural England. Enjoy!

P-40 Warhawk: The Classic WW2 WARBIRD!
First flown in 1938, the venerable P40 Warhawk is arguably the classic AMERICAN FIGHTER PLANE of the interwar era. Configured as a single-seat, single-engine fighter bomber, the Warhawk saw extensive service with the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) during WW2, including being the first aircraft to engage JAPANESE FIGHTER AIRCRAFT at Pearl Harbour. Subsequently adopted by the British Royal Air Force, Royal Canadian Air Force and Royal Australian Air Force, amongst many other allied militaries, almost 14,000 P-40s were built throughout the period. For today’s aviation art release we depict a P-40 Warhawk in desert colours banking high above the North African plains. Enjoy!

Hawker Hurricane: Britain’s WW2 FIGHTER PLANE!
First flown in 1935, the Hawker Hurricane was a monoplane, single-seat fighter in service with the British Royal Air Force (RAF) at the start of World War Two. Although somewhat overshadowed by the Supermarine Spitfire during the BATTLE OF BRITAIN, it is nonetheless estimated that RAF Hurricanes inflicted around 60% of the damage sustained by the Luftwaffe during the battle. This fearsome British fighter plane was also exported around the world and saw extensive combat service during the Second World War. Today’s AVIATION ART release depicts a flight of RAF Hurricanes high above the desert during the North Africa campaign of WW2. Enjoy!

RAF Harrier II: The JUMP JET!
Building on the highly successful V/STOL (vertical/short take-off and landing) Hawker Siddeley Harrier, the British Harrier 2 was derived from its American cousin: the AV-8B Harrier 2, and subsequently designated the GR5, GR7 and GR9 within the British military. Operated by both the Royal Air Force and Royal Navy, the Harrier 2 was a combat-tested fighter jet and extremely successful strike aircraft, but it is perhaps better known for its unique ability to take-off and land vertically… and hover in mid-air! The British Harrier was retired from service in 2011, but the AV-8B remains in service with the Italian Navy, the Spanish Navy and the US Marine Corps. Today’s AVIATION ART release depicts an RAF Harrier 2 down in the weeds as it clears the MACH LOOP in Wales. Enjoy!

Bell UH-1 Iroquois: The MIGHTY HUEY!
The UH1 Huey helicopter is easily one of the most recognisable MILITARY HELICOPTERS in the world. First flown in 1956, the UH-1 Huey was designed as a military utility helicopter and medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) helicopter following the success of MASH units during the Korean War. Despite being operated by the militaries of dozens of countries, including: the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF), Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF), Japanese Self-Defence Forces and the US Army, US Navy, US Marines and US Air Force, the UH1 Iroquois is perhaps most famous for its role in the Vietnam War. As part of the AIRMOBILE concept, thousands of Hueys saw active service in Vietnam, but of all the units equipped with this helicopter none captured the public’s imagination more than those of the Air Cavalry (AIR CAV), most notably in the movie: Apocalypse Now. For today’s AVIATION ART RELEASE we went back in time to capture a flight of 1st Air Cavalry Division UH-1 Hueys sweeping across the jungle sunset. Enjoy!

The Blackburn Buccaneer (nicknamed the Banana Jet) was a carrier-capable attack aircraft developed by the British and first flown in 1958. Also operated by the Royal Air Force and South African Air Force, the Buccaneer was notable for its capacity for high-speed, very low-level attack runs, which provided a countermeasure to constantly evolving military radar systems of the period. RAF Buccaneers also saw active service during the 1990 GULF WAR as the air component of Operation GRANBY / Operation DESERT STORM where Buccaneers supported RAF Tornado squadrons with precision targeting for laser guided weapons. The BUCK was finally retired in 1994 after several decades of successful service. Today’s aviation art release depicts a Royal Navy FLEET AIR ARM Buccaneer in its element – low and fast over the sea! P-51 Mustang: All-American WW2 WARBIRD!
Taking to the air in 1940, the P51 Mustang answered a much-needed call when it entered operational service two years later. Specifically, a long-range, high-performance fighter that could tangle with and defeat the best the Luftwaffe had to offer. Escorting long-range bombers, such as the B-17 Flying Fortress, P-51 pilots were able to protect USAAF and RAF bomber crews all the way to target and back, and dealing with any Me 109s that cared to get involved along the way! To celebrate this Second World War legend, today’s AVIATION ART release depicts the P-51 ‘Cadillac of the Skies’ high in the dusk skies over Europe. Enjoy!
