Monday Mindset Motivation: Habit 4, Think Win-Win

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People (Families) by Stephen R. Covey.

Thinking Win-Win is the root to practice Habit 5, Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood, which is the route you take to reach Habit 6, synergy, the fruit of these 3 habits!

To adopt a win-win mindset you need to adopt an abundance mindset, and recognize that working with others yields a nearly endless opportunities to solve almost any problem. A scarcity mindset will not allow for collaboration or win-win.

I want to expand on what I said in the last minute of this video.

A win-win mindset isn’t just about making the other person happy, and saying that the other person being happy will make you happy is an oversimplification of the concept. So, here’s an elaboration: when you find a solution that benefits everyone, everyone walks away from the situation with most of their needs met, and therefore everyone gets to walk away happy and satisfied. Knowing that your efforts directly resulted in everyone having their needs met and happy with the situation makes you happy.

Especially in personal relationships, valuing the other persons desires is part of why a win-win mindset is so important. Striving for a win-win communicates to the other person that they matter to you, and this is the best way to maintain and strengthen your interpersonal relationships.

Utilizing Habit 4 is the key to unlocking Habits 5 and 6, and Habit 6 of Synergy is where the fruits of your labor in the first 5 habits is recognized!
