The Potato Chronicles 11/2023
Tomatoes and Potatoes are heavy feeders. That means that they suck all of the nutrients out of the ground. I can tell when vegetables need to be fed because the leaves turn brown. These leaves never turned brown at all.
I grew potatoes several years ago. I bought spuds from Burpee and planted them. 3 months later, the leaves turned brown and the vines withered away. I dug up the potatoes and we ate them. These potatoes that I planted in March; the vines never withered away and the leaves are green and healthy looking. That means that the potatoes are not ready to be harvested.
I reached out to Tail Gate Productions for assistance. He has a big beautiful homestead in NC. He is totally self sufficient and his stuff looks amazing. His advice was to stake the potatoes, which I did.
Princess Laratte is the name of the potato. Some of these potatoes are smaller than the spuds that I planted. My sister and I were chatting and she suggested feeding the plants. I hope that these potatoes grow over the winter and we will harvest them in March, regardless. It will be time to plant new potatoes in March or April.
