Drunk driver almost tips over his own truck

You know what’s British? Roundabouts. You know what else is British? Being falling-down drunk. These two cornerstones of British culture met in an unfortunate way back in October, when a HGV driver was so many sheets to the wind that he almost tipped his own truck clean over.

The driver, 38-year-old Romanian national Marius Viorel Amarie, was attempting to cut corners despite there being no corners to cut, as a result of being four times over the legal blood alcohol limit. He was arrested after multiple near misses, but before he could do any serious damage (we would say the police cornered him, but we’ve just been over that).

Amarie was ultimately given a 12-month suspended jail sentence, and banned from driving for three years. You could say justice was served in a roundabout way.
