DO THIS if you come across a Snake in India

I found an old video of an encounter I had with a sea snake at Marve beach in Mumbai. The stranded reptile seemed to be a result of bycatch by the local fisherman and was irresponsibly discarded on the beach instead of being put back into the sea.

To avoid any loss of life, either of the snake or the general public, I put the sea snake in the shallow water and it casually swam away.

Please note that I am NOT an expert or professional snake handler / rescuer. I intervened solely to evade unpleasant outcomes. 50,000 snakebite deaths are recored in India every year. This figure is heavily under estimated as many cases are failed to be reported.

Here's what you SHOULD / SHOULDN'T DO if you come across any snake in India:
• Back up and give the snake some space to carry on its way.
• If it's trapped or in hiding, do not attempt to retrieve it yourself.
• Don't harm / kill it and don't attract a crowd. The snake wants to avoid conflict just as much as you.
• Always contact animal rescue services near your locality and keep an eye on the snake from a safe distance until help arrives.
