As Trudeau's claims caused a political split between India and Canada, Khalistanis once again showed their ugly teeth. On September 25, fans of Khalistan held a protest in front of the Indian Consulate in Vancouver. The protest was against the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, who was a terrorist for the Khalistani group. Outside the Consulate, the radicals raised flags of Khalistan, played music, and yelled chants. CTV News in Canada said that protesters called Nijjar's death an "assassination" and asked that the case be looked into by the people. In the meantime, Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury was very angry about what Khalistan fans did. This month, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor answered Justin Trudeau's claims point by point. After Trudeau said that India was involved with Hardeep Nijjar, a leader of the Khalistani people, the MEA hit back and said that the Canadian government was "giving safe haven to terrorists."
