There are MANY credit cards to choose from. We can talk about the best credit cards for cash back or the best credit cards for travel or the best credit cards for beginners. All of those topics are GREAT to help you identify cards that could be worth adding to your wallet.
However…it’s also important to identify the credit cards to AVOID. That way you’ll know if the interest rates or annual fees are too high, if the rewards offer bad value, and if the benefits don’t have a strong value proposition.
I broke this video down into 6 separate categories to identify the worst credit card in each one:
1. The Worst Credit Card for Financial Health
2. The Worst Luxury Credit Card/ Worst Premium Credit Card
3. The Worst Airline Credit Card
4. The Worst Hotel Credit Card
5. The Worst Cash Back Credit Card
6. The Worst Store Credit Card
In each section, I explain why the credit cards are not worth getting and also offer some tips as to which credit cards you may want to get instead.
A few examples of some of the BEST credit cards for travel (plus a few that work for cash back, too) include…
1. Chase Sapphire Preferred for a low-fee travel card
2. Chase Sapphire Reserve for a premium travel credit card with easy-to-use rewards
3. Amex Green Card and Wells Fargo Autograph Cards for an all-in-one card setup
4. Amex Gold Card for dining and grocery spend
5. Amex Platinum Card for a premium travel credit card (and one of the best credit cards for lounge access)
6. Citi Premier Card as a great credit card to earn travel rewards at home within some very useful categories like groceries, gas, and restaurants
7. U.S. Bank Altitude Reserve Card as one of the best credit cards for mobile wallet purchases, including at Costco and Target
8. Chase Freedom Flex and Chase Freedom Unlimited Cards for cash back and/or completing a Chase Trifecta setup
9. Citi Custom Cash Card as an awesome flexible rewards credit card that can give you 5X points in different categories every billing cycle
10. Citi Double Cash Card or Wells Fargo Active Cash Card as a solid option to earn 2% cash back on all purchases (i.e. a solid non-category / non-bonus spend card … also called catch-all credit card)
11. Capital One Venture X for a premium travel credit card with one of the lowest annual fees, plus benefits that are easy to maximize (including Priority Pass lounge access, Capital One Lounge access, a $300 travel credit to be used via the Capital One Travel portal, and 10,000 bonus points each account anniversary)
