My couple of weeks in Laos with wonderful people, October 2016.

After a long wait at the Thai-Laos border we finally got our transfer to the slow boat and managed to board just as it was pushing off. There were no seats left for us so we were crammed in a small back room with no windows to see the beautiful view and sat on bags. We were next to the glowing-red engine which was giving off loads of fumes and stopped working periodically. We made sure to be the first on the boat the second day and got better seats.

Luang Prabang was a great place with a lovely, cheap night market and the fantastic Kuang Si waterfalls nearby. In the evenings we went bowling a few times as the bars shut relatively early (half past eleven). We also got on a boat and visited a nearby cave.

We then got a bus to Vang Vieng, where we did a whole host of wonderful things. On our very first day we went to a temple and stumbled across a party in aid of a female god, which the locals practically dragged us into. They shared their drinks with us and we al danced for hours. We went tubing and hot air ballooning, and also rode scooters all round the area visiting various lagoons and points of interest.

In Vientiane we visited the informative (and emotional) COPE Centre and also went to Buddha Park. After a couple of days here we flew to Hanoi to start our Vietnamese adventures!
