In California, Bobo and Tiny are doing odd jobs and getting drunk. They hide a secret about the unsolved murder of sailor Pop Kelly, but suicidal waitress Anna, saved by Bobo, solves the mystery.

Film based on the novel written by Willard Robertson, Moon Tide (1940).

Shortly after filming began, director Fritz Lang left the project, reportedly due to friction he had with Gabin regarding Marlene Dietrich, who had been involved with both men. It is not known which footage was first filmed by Lang or replacement director Archie Mayo.

Surrealist Salvador Dali was hired to create the drunkard montage at the top of the story, but his sketches were considered too bizarre, and the scene was filmed with only a little of his influence (probably the close-up of the clock, the headless woman ) intact.

Nominated for an Oscar for Best Cinematography, Black and White. (https://en.wikipedia.org/)
