For Q4 2022, I’m focusing my credit card rewards across 7 cards:

1. Amex Gold Card: I’m using this Amex charge card for dining and grocery store spend as it earns 4X Amex Membership Rewards points in each of those categories. To offset the $250 annual fee, it also comes with a $120 dining credit at select merchants and a $120 Uber Cash benefit. Both of these are issued as $10/mo. and I make sure to use them. This makes the effective annual fee only $10.

2. Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant Card: I’m using this Amex credit card for the $25/mo. dining credit (up to $300/yr.), which is a new benefit that replaced the old $300 Marriott Bonvoy credit. This card provides me with massive value as it allows me to maintain Marriot Bonvoy Platinum Elite Status, offers 25 Elite Night Credits, issues a Marriott Free Night certificate worth up to 85,000 points, and more!

3. World of Hyatt Credit Card: I’m using this Chase credit card for the targeted, limited-time spend bonus allowing me to earn 10X points at gas stations. The same offer also awards 5X points at Amazon.com and grocery stores, all up to $1,500 in combined spend. However, I’m using other credit cards for those two categories.

4. Discover it Cash Back Credit Card: I’m using this cash back credit card to earn 5% cash back at Amazon.com and 5% cash back on mobile wallet transactions (i.e. Apple Pay). These are part of the Discover it cash back calendar for Q4 2022.

5. Chase Freedom Flex Card: I’m using this cash back credit card to earn 5% via PayPal. The Chase Freedom calendar also includes Walmart for Q4 2022, though I’m not shopping there at this time. Note: The Chase Freedom Flex issues cash back in the form of Chase Ultimate Rewards points.

6. Citi Custom Cash Card: I’m using this cash back credit card for its flexible 5% cash back category (i.e. 5% in your Top Spend Category from an eligible list). For me, I’m using this card exclusively for drug store purchases. Note: The Citi Custom Cash card issues cash back in the form of Citi ThankYou points. // Citi Custom Cash Categories:
- Restaurants
- Gas Stations
- Grocery Stores
- Select Travel
- Select Transit
- Select Streaming Services
- Drugstores
- Home Improvement Stores
- Fitness Clubs
- Live Entertainment

7. Amex Blue Business Plus Card: I’m using this Amex business credit card at my catch-all credit card (i.e. for all my non-bonus / non-category spend that would normally earn 1X - 1.5X on other credit cards) because it earns 2X on all purchases, up to $50K spend per year.

The majority of my focus is on cash back credit cards right now, but I’m also adding some travel rewards with Hyatt because the targeted limited-time offer to earn 10X points at gas stations is so good! I also redeem my Amex Membership Rewards points for cash back via the Schwab Platinum Card, which allows me to cash out at a rate of 1.10¢ per point into my Charles Schwab brokerage account. I can then send the funds out to a linked checking account.
