Mount Bailey a.k.a. "Baldy"...

Located in the Umpqua National Forest and standing at 8,368 in elevation this mountain offers you two hiking options:

OPTION ONE: Trail 1451 which is over 9 miles in length and allows you the opportunity for over 3,000 feet of elevation gain. Different guide books give different trail lengths for Trail 1451 with 9.6 and 10 having been some of the distances I have seen listed. Awesome hike in the woods... once you hit the crater you are treated to a wide diversities of terrain and views. This mountain has it all - in my humble opinion!

OPTION TWO: Dirt Road 300 forks left onto Road 380: You need a four wheel drive vehicle to access this road... but it will cut 2.2 miles off of your hike. So then the hike is "around" 5.5 miles in total distance. Your elevation gain will be around 2,000 feet.

With a Crater to show membership in the Cascades, a lovely opening in the rock wall that frames Diamond Lake and Mount Thielsen, a hidden garden during the Summer time, some technical hiking, skree slopes, a three foot wall to scramble over and awesome views from the top this hike has so much to offer. I will be doing this hike again in the future!
