Guitar Demo Gibson custom shop 1958 Les Paul re-issue with Monty's PAFs.

The 1958 Gibson Les Paul model. Never referred to as a standard but now the recipient of a fancy new sunburst finish adorning the book-matched maple cap on mahogany body. This re-issue has exactly the same neck as the 1959 model released the same year and these were termed 'Standard Historic' during a confusing time when Gibson almost went bankrupt, had a critical cashflow problem and sold a big lot of custom shop models on the market for quite a discount.

There was a rush, a fervour to be exact and they were all sold very quickly by GuitarGuitar, Peach Guitars and Coda in the UK, who secured stock. So. Watch out.

So those adverts on ebay and Reverb for 2017 Gibson Les Paul custom shop 1958/1959 models?

The owner bought them cheap £2500 and £3500 respectively.

I've seen them being advertised for way more than the actual cost. Never pay more for these used than they were sold for new!

I swapped out the Custombuckers on this for Monty's PAFs and you can see the video demo and comparison in a video on my channel

The guitar has a very nice plain top and is a 2 piece book-matched maple cap but with a centre seam that is very hard to spot. I had quite a few examples to choose from when buying and this one was a standout.

Recorded with a Carr Skylark cranked with attenuator.
