Okinawa governor appeals to UN over US military base
Okinawa Governor Denny Tamaki says ‘the international community will be paying close attention’ to the construction of a new US military base in the Japanese prefecture, adding that most of the population oppose the move.
He also spoke at the UN Human Rights Council, appealing for international support against the US military presence in his country.
We hear from Pretty Miyagi Chie, a Ginowan city council member, who accuses the government of listening to corporate interests instead of people’s voices.
