House Republicans grill Merrick Garland

Attorney General Merrick Garland testifies before the House Judiciary Committee. The hearing is focused on oversight of the Department of Justice. Lawmakers are expected to grill Garland over his leadership of major Justice Department investigations, including the Hunter Biden probe and special counsel Jack Smith’s investigations into former president Donald Trump.

Garland’s testimony comes days after Speaker Kevin McCarthy directed committees led by House Republicans to launch an impeachment inquiry into President Biden. Republicans have attacked and criticized the Department of Justice, accusing it of becoming “politicized and weaponized” under Garland’s leadership
