NHTSA Demands Recall for 54 MILLION Cars – ACR Says Cars Are Safe and Why I Agree

NHTSA is demanding that a large auto parts supplier issue a recall for over 54 million cars (at time of recording, the number seems to have gone up since).
ACR, an airbag and safety equipment manufacturer based out of Tennessee is being asked to recall any vehicle equipped with its airbags, made between 2010 and 2017.
Vehicles included are Ford Mustangs and F-150s, BMW X5s (various models), Hyundai and Kias, as well as several GM Models, such as the Chevy Malibu, GMC Acadia, Buick Enclave and Chevy Traverse. Stellantis is included as well with Dodge Charger, Dodge Challenger and Chrysler 300 cars made between those ranges.
ACR denies there is a problem, and honestly, one tends to agree considering that only 5 injuries and 2 fatalities occurred since 2010 over the spread of these tens of millions of vehicles, many having been in collisions that resulted in deployment of airbags.
This hits home as I was in such a collision, where the airbag itself (a Takata airbag) resulting in my broken neck. So I do want to discuss the way these devices work. They will save a person at the very edge of what was not survivable, creating the headlines for wild collisions, but at the same time, for minor collions (of which there are far more events), the injuries are greater than they would be without these devices.
I also discus the IIHS Crash Test of the 2009 Chevy Malibu vs 1959 Chevy Bel Air. This is an organization that benefits Insurance companies, and works at their behest, not ours. As such, their interest is in imposing what they believe to be cheaper for insurance companies. I talk about the crash test, but since recording, I learned (remembered) that the car in question was bought and evidence was found the car’s frame was tampered with, to produce that spectacular footage.
And if safety devices are always a better option, then why do these recalls even happen? This brings the question of what happens when these airbags age? What happens with corrosion and decay over the years, decades? Will there be recalls of 40, 50 year old cars?
