Does your dog understand what they’re being rewarded for?

It’s important to be clear with your corrections and with your rewards. If you’re constantly rewarding your dog’s bed stay duration after you’ve released them from the bed stay, they aren’t going to associate the reward with the time they just spent holding that bed stay. They will associate it with getting off the bed and coming over to you. This can apply to any command really. If you’re being thoughtful and intentional about where you are marking and rewarding, your dog will be more successful in their training.
